Gibbs bas received a cable mes sage stating that the American Govern ment is taking steps to realise the New South Wales exhibits seized at the instigation of Sell Brothers. Puerpural fever has broken out in the Benevolent Asylum, and the midwifery department has been closed. Four deaths have occurred. Bain is falling throughout the colony causing a breakaup of the drought and assuring a plentiful supply of grass and water for long to come. ' Messrs Lamb and Eiley, members of the Legislative Council, have resigned on account oi financial difficulties. Four sailors belonging to the vessel Louisa Massel, complained to the Marine Board to day that during the voyage from Newcastle to Sydney, the captain and mate bored anger holes in the ship's hull with the intention of sinking her, and it was only owing to superhuman efforts of the crew at the pumps that the vessel was kept afloat. The Board decided to institute a full enquiry into the matter. This Day. It is calculated that the minimum output of the Cremorne Colliery will be half a million tons annually. AJelboubne, This Day. The floods in Dunolly district are subsiding. It is stated that Dr Pearson has been called upon to terminate his engagement as Secretary to the Agent General, in London, at the end of the year. The intention is to appoint a business man to the position. Mr Patterson, Premier, was entertained at a banquet at Caatlecnaino last night. In responding to the toast of his health, be stated that if the colony would only face their troubles fearlessly, they would soon fade away. The Government, he said, would pursue a vigorous policy, and would would ueither listen to the plausibilities of theorists, nor the (Jeremiads of those who are never content. Adelaide, This Day. The Premier bas promised a deputation, which waited on him, that the Government will do all in its power to place on the Statute Book the law of the extension of the franchise to woruem.
