A cargo of dynamite on board a ship 111 Santander exploded, causing enormous loss of life and property. Among those killed was the Governor of the province. Particulars of the disaster at Santander reveal an enormous loss of lite. A thousand of the residents of the town were standing on the quay watching the burning steamer. They were quite unaware that any dynamite was aboard, and when the explosion came it blew the entire quay into air. Over three hundred people were killed including 27 of the civic guard and the whole of the police force except two. An enormous number were drowned and many are missing. The town is in a complete panic and the fire is spreading on all sides. Many of those injured are dying for want of medical aid.
