The owner of Oxide, who was placed second in the C&ulfield Cup after Tim Swiveller's disqualification, ha3 entered a protest against Sainfoin receiving first money, on the ground that Carslake, his ] nominator, is not the owner of the horse. | The protest cannot effect wagers on the Cnp. The Victorian Club ha9 decided that the backers of Sainfoin shall receive pavmtnt to-day. For the Melbourne Cup, 500 to 50 has been laid against Tim Swiveller. Loyalty is somewhat easier, 500 to 40 being the most important wager recorded about him. Polly Mohr, carrying 6st 131b, beat Scrip (7st lib), Jeweller (9st 21b), and six others, in the Phoenix Handicap, of eight and three quarter furlongs, at Moonee Vallet on Saturday. In consequence of this defeat Jeweller has been knocked back to 100 to 2 for the Cup For the Derby, Mr (Jollan's colt Pou nmnu has been supported to wiu a good stake at 100 to 0. The Sailor Prince has been well backed at 100 to 18, and his closing price to eight is 100 to 20. All There bas been supported to win £3000 for the Cup, down to 100 to 4.
