The Government have ordered 70,000 rounds of Martini-Henri ammunition from Whitney and Co., and in accordance with Colonel Fox's report the munitions re* quired for the big guns have been ordered from Home. Every member of tho Manchester Rifles is expected to put in an appearance at the butts on Friday morning at five o'clock. Major Sotnerville, Chairman of the New Zealand Rifle Association, has written to the Defence Mniister, submitting suggestions for patting rifle clubs in New Zealand on a proper footing. He discusses the opinion held by some, that the existence of rifle clubs has a prejudicial effect on the Volunteer force, and says that, except in largo centres, this is not so.
