« THE CAULFIELD MEETING. [Pee Press Association. | Meluoubne, October 21. There was splendid weather for the Caulfield races, and the attendance was good. The result of the Cup race caused much comment concerning Tim Swiveller's inglorious display at the suburban meetings. A protest against the winner for interference was entered, but after a lengthy consideration it was dismissed. I The stable won a large stake over the win having the horse at outside prices, believing they had a real good thing. Oxide kicked several horses severely prior to the start, and was compelled by the starter to stand wide of the field right on the outside. Maiden Plate — Pounamu 1, Elswick 2, Royal Master 3. Won easily, Caulfield Cup, of 3000 soys— Tim Swiveller (Moore) 1, Sainfoin 3, Oxide 2. Twenty-seven started. Betting— s to 1 against each Oxide and Jeweller, 8 to 1 Newman, 10 to 1 Moscow, 14 to 1 Brockleigh, Sainfoin, and Division, 38 to 50 to 1 the other, including Tim Swiveller. The positions changed often during the race. Entering the straight Moscow had three lengths' lead, followed by Newman, Jeweller, Division, Sainfoin, and Oxide. The boy on Moscow was turning around laughing at the others. Half way up the straight Oxide and Sainfoin made a brilliant run, but nothing like Tim Swiveller, who bored in towards the finish, jamming Oxide and Sainfoin on the rails. Continuing his run Tim Swiveller beat Sainfoin by half a length, Oxide only a neck behind the latter.
