The Weather

.* The exceedingly heavy downpour of rain which continued almost the whole of yesterday, resulted in several of the main streets and the various water tables in the town becoming flooded. In Man* Chester street the main drain became choked with refuse, and there being no other outlet for the water a large portion of Manchester and Grey streets became submerged to a depth of from one to two feet. Pedestrians who happened to be out and had to pass through those streets, had anything but a pleasant time of it. The creek running alongside the railway line from the Makino road overflowed, and residents near the line had their properties under water for some time. The Makino stream rose very rapidly, but beyond again scouring out the approach to the Warwick street bridge no further damage has been reported. The contractors who are erecting the new bridge over the Makino in Kimbolton road had some hard work yesterday in saving timber and appliances, but luckily they suffered no serious loss. The party, who were quite unaware of the little tricks of the Makino, state thnt they have never before seen a stream rise with such rapidity, and bad tbey not been on the spot no doubt most of their material would have been carried away. In the lower parts of the town some of the resi dences were quite surrounded bj water. Fortunately no damage of a serious nature has been reported. The thunderstorm was very heavy, and the flashes of lightning were sometimes of surpassing brilliancy. Tho ram continued today, bat with somewhat diminished violence.
