Mr Weddell, of Weddell and Co., the well-known meat salesmen, has shipped 150 tons of Queensland beef to Hamburg and 50 tons to Cologne. The steamers were specially insulated. The residents of Hamburg are much pleased at the quality and condition of the meat, The Stock Exchange is likely to oppose the floating of any Australian loan within a month. The Bank of England returns, published to-day, show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be 1i16.644.000, the proportion of reserve to liabilities being 45.48 The Times refers to the New South Wnles Budget as a satisfactory one. Washington, October 21 It is reported that the Cabinet have rejected the compromise on the silver question, notwithstanding that it is supported by 58 Senators.
