Hawke's Bay Show
(PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.) Natieu, October 5. The Agricultural and Pastoral Society's Show commenced to-day. As usual, the day was deroted to jud-jinc sheep. For the second time single judges were employed, and the results gate much greater satisfaction than under the old system of two judges. In each class merinos were not very numerous, only two breeders exhibiting. Mr Douglas McLean, of Maraekakaho, swept the board of all the principal prizes. Long wools are in great force. In Lincolns the champion awards went to a Kirk ham ram imported by Mr J. N. William*, and a ewe bred by Mr T. Tanner. None of the South Island bred sheep in Lincolns got prizes. Mr E. D. Tanner took most awards with sheep of his own breeding, but the chief ewe prizes went to sheep bred by Mr W. Grey, of Otago, and exhibited by Mr W. Nelson. Bomney Marsh were greatly in evidence, and there were many exhibitors from Wellington. The chief awards went to a ram bred by Mr Grey, of Wairarapa, and shown by Mr J. N. Wilson, and a ewe bred by Mr A. Matthews, and also shown by Mr Williams. Messrs W. B. Allen (Wairarapa), G. Wheeler (Halcombe), and E. D Tanner and E. Harding were also successful exhibitors. The numerous and large pens of long wools constituted one of the principal features nt the Show.
