(FEB PBESB ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, September 28. Wm, Coffin was fined £10 and costs for sly-grog selling at Te Kuiti. The fine was paid. The team of riflemen picked to represent Auckland at the New South Wales Rifle Association Meeting leave by the Tara* wera on Tuesday. They are Sergoants Doughty and Osborne, Private Tobm, Bombardier Brown, and Corporal Webster. Wellington, September 28. A portrait in oil of the late Sir Wm. Fitzherbert has been presented to the Legislative Council and will be hung in the Chamber of which the honorable gentleman had been Speaker. The work is from the brush of Mr H. Otterson, of the Houso of Representative's staff, and is a very true likeness. It is gazetted that the parcel post is extended to New South Wales at the same rates of postage as to other Australian Colonies— viz., 8d for Ist lb., with increase of 6d for every additional pound up to 11 lbs., which is the maximum weight. The Chamber of Commerce sent a telegram to the Premier urging the adoption of the Public Accounts Committee's report regarding tbe Midland Railway, and stating that if the railway were abandoned it woull be a serious blow to the East and West Coast districts. Dunedin, September 28. A gang of burg Jars is at work in the city and suburbs. Further robberies are reported Horsburgh's (bookseller) premises were antered last night, and L4O abstracted. The Railway station at Sawyer's Bay and Ravensbourn also were broken into, and L 9 and L 4 respectively taken.
