* (I'EB PRESS ASSOCIATION). Cukistchubcii, September 28. This afternoon a conference of clergy and laity of the various religious denominations was held to consider the question of the introduction into State schools of religious teaching. The Bishop of Christchurch, in the course of a lengthy address, thought that all the churches would agree in supporting some elementary religious teaching, and said that if they all united in this re spect there influence oould not be resisted. It was resolved on the motion of the Rev. Mr Dewsbury seconded by the Rev. Mr Q, Webster, " That in the opinion of this meeting a desirable text book, consisting of selected portions of the scripture, should be introduced into the cirriculum of the stato schools of the colony." A committee, consisting of Bishop Julius, the Revs. Gordon Webster (Presbyterian), H. R. Dewsbury (Wesleyan), Sydney Baker (Congregational), J Hosking (Free Methodist), J. Dawson (Primitive Mothodist), Mr Holney (Babist), Colonel Bailey (Salvation Army), were appointed to report ou the most suitable form of text book,
