Eiwitea Road Board
The following business was transacted after we went to press on Saturday last. ' Proposed by Warden Taylor, seconded by Warden Homer, That :iny member of the Board be authorised to sign cheques. — Carried. Proposed by Warden Homer, seconded by Warden Jones, That the Engineer arrange to meet Mr Watson and call tenders for the work he requires, as far as the thirds will allow. — Carried. Proposed by Warden Morton, seconded by Warden Powell, That the bye-laws as attached hereto, be adopted as the bye-laws of the Birmingham Cemetery, and that the same be adopted at a special meeting of the Board to be held on Saturday the 21st October.— Carried. Proposed by Warden Morton, seconded by Warden Taylor, That J. Woulve's request to erect a house on the West Waitapu metal reserve be granted, and that he be allowed to remove the same when desired, or at the Board's request.— Carried. Proposed by Warden Powell, seconded by Warden Morton, That Mr Cameron be paid for his bushfelling on road line opposite his section, on receiving his cheque for rates due, and that the Engineer report on the work. — Carried. Proposed by Warden Homer, seconded by Warden Williamson, That the Engineer be instructed to have Mr McDermott's contract completed a3 soon as possible. — Carried. Proposed by Warden Morton, seconded by Warden Williamson, That the Board offer Mr Frazer £4 per acre for the land required for widening the road opposite his section, and agree to lease him the gravel reserve at Is per year for 7 years, on the Board's usual terms, Mr Frazer to pay for the lease, but the Board will make him no further concessions. — Carried. With reference to Mr Bourfee's request, the Engineer was instructed to inspect the road and report at next meeting of the Board. — Carried. Proposed by Warden Reid, seconded by Warden Morton, That the Sandon Block thirds be placed on deposit in the Bank, and that the interest due on loan to the said Block he paid out of this account from time to time, and that the present balance of £220 10s lld be placed to this account. — Carried. Proposed by Warden Reid, seconded by Warden Williamson, That G. McGregor, and W. Cunningham, be allowed to fall bush on their road lines on the usual terms. — Carried. Proposed by Warden JKeid, seconded by Warden Williamson, That the name of William Smith be substituted for that of J. Bowater for section 26, Block IV. Ongo, and those of A. and F. Whitehead in lieuA>f A. E. Whitehead for sections 2 and 9, Blocks V. and VIII., Apiti and Ongo. — Carried. Proposed by Warden Morton, seconded by Warden Powell, That tenders be called for delivery of 1000 yards of metal on the Kimbolton rond. — Carried. • The names of 14 ratepayers were balloted for, to be summoned at next sitting of the Court. Proposed by Warden Powell, seconded by Warden Morton, That legal advice be taken as to whether the rates on section 79, Block VII, Ongo, can be obtained. — Carried. Proposed by Warden Williamson, seconded by Warden Reid, That the Engineer call for tenders for metalling on Williamson's road east, at a cost not exceeding £30. — Carried. Proposed by Warden Reid, seconded hy Warden Williamson, That the following tenders be accepted : — M. Dogherty, 17 chains on Mangitikei road £29 ; B. Poole for Bryce's road £19 10s ; M. Dogherty 42 chains, 12 feet wide on the Junction road at 29s per chain, and the alternate tenders for the Pakihikura road for bridle track and 14 feet formation be called for. — Carried. Proposed by Warden Powell, seconded by Warden Morton, That tenders be called for continuing the work on the Kiwitea-Xapuae road, at a cost not to exceed £50. — Carried. Accounts amounting to £638 10s 8d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
