Yesterday afternoon a young married women named Nellie Brocker, aged 25, the wife of John Brocker, post office letter carrier, residing in llevan ftreet, Newtown, committed suicide by hanging herself to a beam under the house, which stands on high piles. She left a letter addressed to her husband declaring her love for him and child, but said the atti« tuile of his people towards her rendered her life unhappy and she had determined to die. Lady Glasgow returned from Christ* church this morning. She has taken a cottage at Lowry Bay for a fortnight, from the 22nd inst. to about the 13th of October, when the whole family remove to Christchurcli, where His Excellency has taken Mr Leonard Harper's resi* dence. Lama, for three months, and where the family will remain while His Excellency and Lady Glasgow are in Australia. Over 70 Italians have signed a letter to the Premier asking for an interview re Chemis. A private letter from Mashonaland gives a rosy colored picture of the country which is described as full of gold and is a healthy land, and farms have been largely taken up. Palmerston ST., This Day. A carpontor named Joseph Guj died suddenly in bed this morning at 6.30, in a fit. Deceased was an old residout here, about 60 years of ago. Ho was in his usual health whon ho retired to bed lost evening. Auckland. This Day. A native named Kapihann W26 killed while felling bush at Obautira on Thursday. John Keane. aged 16. w«g drowned at Mangapiko Creek, 15 miles inland from Churchill. He fell from a boat. Ditnedin, This Day. The Mayor telegraphed to the Premier he has been waited on by over 100 unemployed—all able-bodied men, anxious for work. As a large number of them are in urgent need, he asked that something be done to rehere them. Dunkdin, September 17. It was announced in St. Joseph's Cathedral this uiortung that the health of Bishop Moran had greatly improved.
