Manawatu County Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting was held in the Council Chambers, Sanson, on "Wednesday 13th September at 11 a.m. Present— Crs. Ransom (Chairman), Taylor, Hammond, Masters, Robinson and Strang. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Inward correspondence was dealt with as follows : — From G. W. Blunden applying for license to slaughter on secton 24b, Campbelltown. — Granted. From Foxton Butchers Co. asking for transfer of slaughtering license to Walsh and Howan. — Granted. From G. Hansen for transfer of section at Campbelltown to Carl Robertson. — Granted, ; From K. Buene (as Trustee for late ■ Mrs Scott) that payment of rent and rates . on reserves at Scott's Ferry would have early attention. i From Peter Stewart, asking that Native land rated to him be withdrawn as his lease had expired.— The Clerk was in--1 structed to enquire as to who was responsible for the rates. - ' From J. C. Wilson, stating that he , would support amendment in Rating Act . to give local bodies power to charge 10 per cent, on all rates three months overdue ; also asking leave of absence from this meeting as Conncillor for Mount - Stewart, Feilding. — The latter was • Granted. t Quite a number of letters were read from various ratepayers complaining of their land being flooded, the culverts being washed out or stopped up, and Mr James Howie and Mr C. Grace waited personally on the Council to complain of damage being done to their properties by flood waters. The Council appointed various coin« in it tees to visit the localities with the Overseer and try to remedy the evils complained of if it should appear to be . the duty of the Council to do so. s A committee was appointed to draft a . by-law rsgulaling the width of tires on f drays and waggons, also weights carried [ on same, and report at next meeting. f, Resolved that steps be takon to appoint . a Ranger for the Awahuri Riding and . that the Clerk call the attention of the > ranger at this end of the district to the . number of straying cattle and horses. , Tenders were opened for leasing the . Shannon Ferry for 12 months from Ist , October. — J. Hillany £'40 per annum, E. A. Howie, £56 per annum, John Wilson, - Sil~> per annum ; the latter beinj; a.c<?eptecL ) Resolved, That the necessary steps be | taken to raise a loan of .±"1,500 under the , " Local Bodies Loans Act " for forming, \ charging and metalling in the Foxton- . Shannon road. Special rate to be struck r over the Awahou Riding. , Resolved, That tenders be called for . grubbing gorse in the County reserves. \ Resolved, That tenders be called for , forming about 2i miles in the Sandon- '. Foxton road to be in by the next meet- . ingResolved, That tenders be called for forming 30 chains on Main Drain road near Mr Cowper's. , Resolved, That the Clerk write to Mr Costall, Campbelltown, thanking him for | donation of trees for planting, approaching i the Longburn bridge. ( Resolved, That the overseer be in- ( structed to get a slip cleared away on t Wilson's-Halcombe road, as it is danger- ' ous to traffic in its present state. The outward correspondence and over- , seers report were read but contained nothing of special interest. The treasurer's report showed th general account to be overdrawn £971 9s 8 | the special accounts ot the various Ridingsi showing in most cases a small creditbalance Accounts to the amount ot £249 17s 4d were passed for payment and the Council adjourned to the 11th October.
