A general meeting of tho Women's Christian Temperance Union was hold iv the Presbyterian Church on Tuesday afternoon. Letters wore read from MrsPlimmer asking help For the Sydeuham Defouce Fund, stating that the indebtedness of the committee is at present over i'loo From Mrs Troy (New Zealand Treasurer), appealing to the different Unions on behalf of the funds of the Treasury. The expense of holding the next convention in Invercargill will be heavy, and she asks each branch to do all in their power to help. j?'rom Mrs Kirkland (N.Z, Superintendent of Evangelistic Work), asking for a report on evangelistic work done by the members. It was decided to keep in remembrance the Sydenham Defence Fund for all possible help that can be given ; and, That the Secretary write to Mrs Kirkland saying that evangelistic work was being taken up. and tracts, etc, were being ordered from England, and that it was decided to ask the clergymen if they would be willing togivo Bible instruction in the schools. Arrangements were made for holding a Cake and Apron Fair in about six weeks time, and a committee was formed for carrying it out. The treasurer reported having sent the yearly subscriptions to the " Prohibitionist " and after a short discussion on the Electoral Bill, thanks were expressed for the loyal manner in which so many members of Parliament had fought for the Women's Franchise clause. It was resolved that a telegram be sent to Sir John Hall expressing tho thanks and appreciation of tho W.C.T.U. The meeting then closed with the singing of the Doxology.
