RED STARS V. ALBIONS. The above match was played on the Oval yesterday afternoon, and resulted in a win for the local team by 9 points to 2. Soon after the kick off Robinson made a good run for'the Red Stars, and ! the Albions were forced down. The j game then became fast, each side alternately showing to advantage, Feilding being forced down twice in quick succession. This put the Stars on their mettle, a»d Kobinson made another capital run ending with a judicious pass to Parr who got over the line, but James' kick at goal failed. The local men still had slightly the best of the play, and their opponents were twice forced down. The Albions just before half time penned the local men, and Arnott securing the ball managed to score a try. Pallant took the kick at goal but failed to increase the record. On resuming, Robertson shortly after the kick off, stopped a dangerous rush, secured the ball, made a splendid run, and again got over the line, but the kick at the goal was again unsuccessful. The. game now became fairly even, until Smith, for the Stars, obtained possesion, made a good dodgy run, and secured a try, which Robertson converted into a goal. Play now became slower, with neither side having much the better of the game, until the home players, waking up, at length worked the ball into their opponents' territory and James secured a mark right in tront of the goal. Robertson took the kick, which went over the bar, but the score was disallowed, as one of the Feilding players got in front of the ball. Time was shortly afterwards called, with the finish as stated above. The form shown by the back division for the Red Stars was excellent, Parr and Bert Robertson both playing grand games ; Brinkman and Smith also showed to advantage. For the Albions, Layton, Haukins, George, Burne, Pallant, and Arnott, all played well. Mr H. C. Wilson (of rep. fame) gave the utmost satisfaction in the arduous position of referee. About a quarter of an hour before the call of time, Burns of the Albion team was accidentally kicked in the stomach. Burns suffered great pain for some time afterwards, but was able to return to Palmerston with his companions in the brake. The following senior team has been selected to represent the Manawatu Rugby Union against Taranaki : — Full-back, Wilson ; three-quarters, Jewell, Cameron, Ross ; halves, Manning and Johnson ; forwards, Wood, Mowlem, Cockroft, Matravers, Sansoa, Aldworth, Johnston, Iveaon, and McDonnell.
