HOME RULE BILL IN THE HOUSE OF LORDS, THE BILL REJECTED BY 419 TO 41. (PFH PBKSS ASSOCIATION.) London, September 8. The House of Lords rejected the Home Rule Bill by 419 to 41. During the debate on the second reading of the Home Rule Bill, the galleries were crowded with ladies, members of the House of Commons, and Ambassa.* dors. The Marquis of Salisbury declared the retention of Irish members at Westminster was a grotesque outrage to England. The Bill had, he said, been carried in the House of Commons by a majority of 48. whose members had been .stamped with the criminal brand by the Parnell Commission. He referred to the Irish members a.s marketable, and to (lie Welsh members as foreigners. : Twentytwo Bishops, including Primates, voted with the majority. The Bishop of Ripon was the only" Bishop who spoke against the Bill. Twenty Peers, in addition to twentyone created by the Government, yoted for Home Rule. On the result of the division being announced, the crowd outside sang the National Anthem and Rule Britannia, and cheered heartily. No hostility was shows to peers beyond a few groans. The Marquis of Salisbury was cordially cheered.
