REPLY TO " INDIGNATION."
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sib, — With regard to holding a meeting in the Schoolhouse, at Birmingham, the School Committee are in need of a few shillings quite as much as the Hall Company. I doubt very much whether you would get the Hall for a meeting of the kind for less than a pound. The meeting referred to above would not have been held at all had the three gentlemen who sent names to Wellington, recommended by them to be Justices of the Peace, done so openly. It was only by mere chance the " cat was let out of the bag." The meeting was " packed " by those opposed to the conveners, but they, I think, knew nothing of the previous nominations, not only for Justices of the Peace, but for Registrar, It was ail done, I understand, by one or two. Now that Birmingham has attained such great importance it is quite time that all matters relating to it should be done openly. I think most of those who attended the meeting were led to believe that the Kiwitea people did not want Birmingham to have a Justice of the Peace, which statement I believe to bo untrue. 1 am, etc., A Lover of Truth. Birmingham, September 9, 1893.
