AN ELECTIVE UPPER HOUSE. (FEB PBESS ASSOCIATION). Brisbane, August 29. I In the Legislative Council tn*e Hon. A. ! J. Thynne, on behalf of the Government, has introdiiced a measure for an elective Upper House. The Bill provides for 89 electorates with a single member for each, and as the present members of the Council drop out their place 3 are to be taken by elected members. Mklboubne, August 30. I The Legislative Assembly passed a primage duty of one per cent, on all goods imported, with certain exceptions. Pekth. This* Duy. The Budget estimates the revenue of Western Australia for the ensuing year at £589,000, and the expenditure £'649,000. A Bill will be introduced to authorise a loin of £'540,000 to be devoted to the extension of telegraphs and railways, and the developeinent of the goldfields. The prospects of the colony are regarded as bright. Hokart, August 30. A Hill has been indrodnced to the Legislative Assembly imposing an Income Tax of lOd in the pound from ad- ! vances on mortgages.
