A visitor from Feilding to Auckland was recently shown over Mr T. Morrin's training establishment, at Wellington Park, and speaks in terms of the highest commendation of the grand lot of yearlings, and two-year-olds, now running in tbe paddocks , there. Amongst the number are between forty and fifty sons and daughters of Tasman, many of which be confidently asserts will be heard of in tbe immediate future. A yearling filly by Tasman, Rubina, especially | took my informant's fancy, and is a perfect picture The well-performed brood mares Rubina, Hilda, Cissy, and others, were all looking splendid. Mr C. H. Lance of the Awahuri road, Feilding, has got a small establishment together under R. Kingan's charge. The first liorse to claim attention is Bay King, a 6 year by Cadogan — Corcyra, whose half-brother Alcinous took second honors in a stallion show in Australia a few weeks ago. His owner intends travelling the horse during the coming season. , At welter weights, Bay King has i proved himself one of the best horses i in New Zealand. The 6 year old brood mare Ata, by Somnus-Wairuareka, is full sister to Wairua and Kangiatea, and half-sister to Tiritea, with foal at foot to Forester, i and should throw good stock. ■ Mr Lance has also Liberty and Caloola in his stables. Caloola has 1 engagements at the Bulls' Meeting next month, and Liberty will most probably be seen out at the Hunt Club Meeting in Marton. These two fyorses should give a good account of them- ; selves, as they are in R. Kingan's capable hands. Sir Tatton Sykes, a Yorkshire ' sportsman, contemplates building a . church at Sledmere, at a cost of Ll oo,ooo, iv commemoration of the : the marriage of the Duke of York and Princess May. ! The Duke of Westminster has a very fine yearling chestnut colt, own brother to the great Ormonde. Eavensbury has run six seconds during his career, and thus just missed winning L 24,202. Iv the Final Handicap at the Canterbury Trotting Club Meeting, L 144 was in the totalisator, but there were no investments on the winner Kontucky, or on the second horse. The London Sportsman gives the following : — A remarkable wagei came off on the second day's racing at York. A gentleman had 3 soys. on Finlay's first mount, a 6 to 4 chance. Determined to work upon the •' all on " system, he put L5 on the next race, at 6 to 1. This made L 35. The next mount, Timoroso, again won at 6 to 1 odds to L 35, making L2lO. This sum went on Towton, in the Flying Dutchman's Handicap, a 7 to 1 chance which brought L 1470, so that with all his stake money, and winnings, back he had Ll7lO in hand, as Finlay did not ride again during the meeting.
