Waituna Notes

[FROM OUB OWS COBttKSrONDENT.] The heavy rain at the beginning of the weok has put the rivers and streams in high Hood, and caused a complete block on many roads in the Waituua through washouts and land slips. Mr Tray nor, of Eagar and Ransom, had an unpleasant experience. He had taken a pack-horse into the Sandon ] Slock, and was coining home near the Pakihikura when a huge slip came down, carrying several large trees with it ; Mr Traynor's horse jumped on one side, down a steep bank and, fortunately, saved both. He had to stay with someone in a tent that night, and walk out the next morning, leaving the horses behind until they can dig a track out. Measles are spreading up here, four houses having persons affected. Lambing is pretty general, but 1 have not heard of any groat loss ao far.
