(PER FBEBS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland. August 20 Sir George Grey is improving considerably in health. Ho was out of his house to-day for the first time for weeks. He is still unable to go to Wellington. Cablegrams have been received stating that fifty tons of ore taken from Woodstock, Upper Thames, and forwarded to Germany for treatment, gave an actual value of L 42 per ton, equal to 90 per cent of the assay value. Palmebston N., This Day. A conference of teachers from Wellington, Hawke's Bay, and Wanganui districts was held here on Saturday, when a number of qustions relating to education wero considered. Resolutions wero carried iv favor ot the Education Department conducting pupil teachers' examinations; of a colonial system of standard examinations ; and a teachers' superannuation scheme. It was pointed out that the percentage of failures in the Wellington district was 5, and in tho Wanganui district 22-6 the cause being ascribed to the stringency of the latter's inspector.
