« — NUMBERS OF PEOPLE KILLED AND WOUNDED. (I'EE riIESS ASSOCIATION). London, August 10. I A number of mochanios and tradesmen, angry at tho lossos caused by tho strikes, attacked a largo body of Welsh miners, and a fierce fight ensued, in which the weapons wore principally huge stavos. Many wore injured, and tho minors ovoutually gave way and fled. Tho assailants included a number of minors who wero willing to work but had been provented by tho strikers. The men who wore attacked in some casos usod pistols to defeud themselves. Ten thousand men assembled at Pontypridd aud prayed for Diviuo guidance during tho strike. Tho oxcitemont m Wales, owing to the strike, contiuuos, aud at Pontypridd cavalry aud police are patrolling the streets. Tho stock of coal at the gasworks is almost exhausted, and it is feared that the towu will be iv darkness to-night. Various magistrates in the disturbed districts are prepared day and night to read the Biot Act, and express a deter* minatiou to suppress the trouble with drastic measures Throo thousand troops are stationed in Cardiff and Nowport. Tho strikers who marchod on tho Morthyr Troharris collorios compolled the cessation of work. Tho Scotch ironmasters havo closed down their furnaces owing to tho doarnoss of fuel. August 20. It is roportod that a sonous conflict has takon placo botween strikers and workers at Dowlors Great Iron Cotitre, near Mouthy r Tydvil. Ton thousand mon wore engagod. Sotno twouty of a mob mado a hostile demonstration outside tho French Embassy in consequeuco of the attack on tho Italian laborors near Nisraes in which a largo number were killed Stones were thrown aud hooting indulged iv.
