The Melbourne Bank Scandal
(I'KR PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Mkldourne, This Day. In the Legislative Assembly last night upon the motion to go into supply an amendment was moved condemning the unsatisfactory position in which the Mercantile bank cases were treated. A debate took place. Mr Isaac, Ex-Solici-tor-Goneral, said that if he were still at tho head of the department the Pa m ton Magistrate, who refused to issue summonses, should not be allowed to remain in the service another hour. The Premier said the Government had nothing to do with the Grand Jury, or with tho Magistrate's decision. Mr Shields said the history of the cases was a long, dreary record of miserable bungles. The amendment was eventually negatived by 33.
