(FEB PBEBS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, July 31. Three of the Governor's children are victims to the measles. There is some anxiety felt for the safety of the barque Achievement, which lett Liverpool for Wellington on February 13th, and is therefore 168 days out. Auckland, July 81. Jas. Evans, for sacrilege and stealing tabernacle covers, one sacred heart, and chalice cloth at the Boman Catholic Church, Panmure, was sentenced to six months' hard labor. The New Zealand Accident Insurance Company declared an interim dividend of 8} per cent for the half year, which ended 30th June last. Chbistchuhch, July 31. John Oliver, a very old settler, died today, aged 81. He arrived here in 1853, and held many offices in the Canterbury Provincial Council. He was Provincial Secretary, and afterwards Speaker. On his retirement from that position he was appointed Provincial Auditor, a position he held till the abolition of the provinces, and subsequently held a somewhat similar position ander the general Government. For some years he was Magistrate at Christchurch and Lyttelton. Dunkdin, July 31. James Alsford, alias Alfred Kine.who was caught rcdhanded at the Caledonian Ground, pocket picking on Saturday, was sentenced to 12 months' hard labour, on three charges. Timabu, July 81. There were nine deaths of children from measles during July.
