A Serious Charge
[Per Press Association.] Wellington, This Dajr. The charge of mal-practice against Caroline McGovern came before the court this morning. Mrs Coleman, sister of the girl Guinan, was put in the box but refused to say more than that she went to McGovern's house in company with her sister. Inspector Pender said he had been deceived, as the witness a few minutes before had promised to tell the whole truth. The Magistrate pointed out . a pardon could be procured for Coleman, who could then be compelled to give evidence. After some debate, the case adjourned till 2 p.m. Isabella Guinan was then charged < similarly. A written confession, signed ( by herself, was put in. She was committed for trial. * Inspector Pender said he had reason to ! believe an attempt would be made to get 1 the girl away. Bail allowed, two sureties '■ £15, and the accused in a similar amount. ,
