) '''VSsr -ii" -m Ri (By •• CnACKsnoT.") Mr J. E. Henry's adjustments for the Winter Meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club are now published. A brief review of the same is appended. In the Grand National Steeplechase, Norton, 12st 12lb, has received every pound he is entitled to, and is handicapped up to his very best performances. Still, he is such a good horse and grand weight-carrier, that if he goes to the post he is bound to be handy at the finish. Freeman is not the horse he used to be, and may he discarded. Couranto if in his usual form must be very dangerous with, list 81b on his back. Shilleiagh is nicely handicnpped at list 71b, but is unsound. Empire is not overburdened at list 51b. Clarence reads better than Goudolier at a difference of 3lbs in bis favour. Victriifc, l Opt 101 b, pn. her recent performances, is the pick of the handicap. Waterbury, lOst 81b, if in the humour and will only try, must not be ignored. Despised, winner of the Great Northern Steeplechase, has shown his ability to get over a distance of ground, and is fairly well iv. Old Morok will stand up to the finish, and bo going when most of the othere are out of the running. Of the 9st 7lb division, £cal-' theen reads the best. To sum up, Empire, Clarence, Victrix, Waterbury, Despised, and Morok read the best in at their respective weights, and if I must take one of these at present shall stick to recent winning form, and plump for Victrix outright. In the Grand National Hurdles, Norton 12st 31b, has a better show than in the Steeplechase, Kulnine' is uot harshly dealt with at 12st, Courranto, Freeman, and Empire are very fairly treated. I have a liking for Cajolery at lOst 71b. Liberator and Melinite untried horses over the sticks, being possessed of plenty of pace, may show to advantage. Stranger : 9st 111 bis very fast, is jumping in good form, and is remarkably well m. Jack 9st 91 bis fast on the flat, and should have a show at this weight. Smuggler and Erin-go-Bragh have an outside show. Of the 9st division Freelance and vVayland, both fast horses on the flat, are very leniently treated. In conclusion, I consider the following six horses to be the pick at the weights, viz., Kulnine, Kapua, Mutiny, Liberator, Stranger, and Wayland. (PEK PRESS ASSOCIATION.) London, July 14. Orme won the Eclipse Stakes by half a length.
