(.PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! Melbourne. July 8. For the opening day the weather was splendid, but the course was heavy. The following is the result of the principal event : — V.R.C. Grand National Hurdle Bace, of 1000 soys ; about three miles. Tim Swiveller, list ... (Brewer) 1 The Pioneer, lOst 21b ... (Fergusson) 2 Kapo, 9atßlb (Tomlin) 8 Thirteen started. Satyr was favourite, but fell while going well. An interesting finish, the race being won by two lengths. Time, finiin 22sec. Hott Racecourse, This Day. Light showers fell thia morning. Weather still threatening. The attendance ia good and the course ia very heavy.
