Pohangina Notes
[FROM OVa. OWN COBBKSPONDKWT.] We have had v fearful lot of rain hero within the lust few days. On Wednesday night it fell in torrents, consequently the PohHiigina was in high flood taking away good land by the acre. The land slips in several places are heavy, nnd the Valley road is blocked completely with fallen timber and earth. The Horseshoe Bend was impassible for wheel traffic on Thursday because the road broke away on the lower side. The Zig-zag road had some heavy slips on it. Today (Thursday) there is a terrible gale blowing, tearing the trees up by the roots. Their fall could be heard all around, while the roaring of the wind over the ranges could be heard for miles. The river is lowering a littlo to-night. All our roads are very much cut up. The Pohangiua main road, through the swamp, is in need of a few loads of metal to the chain, and if this is not put on the road will soon be totally unfit for traffic of any kind. A stitch in time saves nine, .Bushfelling has begun in earnest this season, some hundreds of acres having already been cut down. The Christy Minstrels will perform here in about a fortnight, the proceeds to go towards the church fund. All the performers are local. After the concert there will be a dance, and if the weather is anyway decent there should bo a bumper house.
