The Alba Concert Company
« The above talented company gave a most successfal concert in the Assembly Booms on Saturday last. There was a Rood attendance, the front seats being particularly well patronised. The pro* jrraintue opened with a pianoforte sole from ' Faust,' which Mr Gunter played in a masterly manner. The song ' Sing, Sweet Bird,' gave Miss Julie AJba the opportunity of displaying her splendid upper notes to great advantage, and in response to an enthusiastic recall 4 Ylang* Ylang ' was substituted. Mr J. Fuller then sang ' My Pretty Jane ' very tastefully, and gare 'In Old Madrid ' as an encore. Miss Rose Albu sang ' Remember Me No More ' very pleasingly, and rendered ' Conitn' through the Rye ' as an encore, in a most taking style. Mr Fuller then did full justice to the song * Look Back ' ; and the duet ' Maying ' was splendidly sung by the Misses Albu, the voices blending most harmoniously. The trio, ' O Memory,' by the Misses Albu and Mr Fuller, was next rendered in a faultless manner, the artists bowing their acknowledgments. 'She Wore a Wreath of Roses,' sung by Miss Julie Albu, waa rapturously applauded, 'Swanee River ' being then substituted. Mr Fuller was deservedly encored for hie rendering ot 'The Minstrel Boy.' ' Auld Robin Gray ' was next sung by If tea Rose Alba in a most Coviclaxn^ and feolinf? namziKMir ; and a very successral programme concluded by the Misses Alba rendering, in Italian, the duet ' Hear Me, Norma,' in a manner that stamped these ladies aa artistes of the very highest order. On Sunday evening a sacred concert was given, by special request, to a very large audience, which went away delighted with the great musical treat afforded them. The company will appear here again on Friday evening next, when an entire change of programme will be submitted, of which full particulars will appear in our next issue.
