Chess and Draughts Club

A meeting in connection with the formation of the above club was held yesterday evening at Mr Frank Bray's, when good progress was made. Mr Giesen was voted to the chair. A letter was read from Mr Sexton, of Ashur&t, wishing the club every success, and offering to come over and play several games simultaneously, or to give an exhibition of blindfold chess against two of the members. The secretary was instructed to write Mr Sexton thanking»hiiikior his offer, and stating that the club would avail itself of the same when in thorough working ordor. The election of officers resulted as follows :- President; MFGießWTvicepresidents, Rev A. Hermon and Dr Monckton ; secretary and treasurer, Mr Percival ; committee, Messrs P. Thomson, Morey, Reade, and Frank Bray, together with the aforementioned officers. Mr Matheson was appointed auditor. The entrance fee was fixed at 58, and the annual subscription at 10s, payable in advance. Members under 16 years of age to be admitted at 5s per year, but to pay an entrance fee similar to that charged to adults. It was resolved that the property of the club be vested in the president and vice- presidents for the time fieing. A donation of 5s from Mr Hqsking towards the funds of the club was acknowledged with thanks; The committee ■ will meet at Mr Reado's office on Monday evening next, at 8 o'clock, for the purpose of making the necessary arrangements for furnishing Mr Bray's room) until another site can be obtaiued. Between 30 and 40 members have already joined the club.
