The Manchester Rifles paraded for drill and inspection in the Assembly Rooms on Thursday night, and notwithstanding the many other meetings held ot the same ereniag the attendance was very good. At the conclusion of the parade Lieut. Kir ton stated that on May 24th. tbere would be a social in the Assembly Booms, when three squads under Sergts. Petliericlr, Sajwell, and Aitken, would cife an exhibition of the sword* bayonet exercise; there will also be dancine and music. During the evening tbe various shooting prizes will be pre* sented. The secretary (Mr G. H. Saywell) of the shooting committee, who have undertaken the management of the affair, promises that a good bill-of«fare will be provided. Firing for the binocular glasses presented by Lieut. Xtrton will commence on Wednesday next. Sergt. Bellve was unanimously elected a member of the Shooting Committe. The Manchester Rifles, after paying for their rations, netted £5 17s 5d at the Easter Encampment, to which has to be added £1 18s the corps' share of the canteen and shooting gallery fund, after pay. ing for timber and conveyance of luggage. Lieut-Colonel Newall will inspect the parade to be held on Thursday next, when every member must be present ; no exceptions will be made except in oases of sickness. The New Zealand Accident Insurance Company deserves commendation for promptness in settling claims. When the Manchester Rifles went into camp at Johnsonville one of the members injured his foot, and was laid up in consequence. As all of those attending camp, aud belonging to the corps, were insured, a claim was sent in, and a cheque for jE2 was promptly forwarded to the injured man by the District Agent at Wellington.
