Birmingham Notes
[FROM OUB OWN COBRBSFONDBNT.] The election for members to serve on the school committee for this district will shortly take place (on the 24th instant). All who take an interest in the welfare of the rising generation not only in book knowledge, but proper desk accommodation, supervision in play time, and enlargement of schoolhouse, should attend at once to the snbject and see that fit and proper men are elected for these important duties. Mr Ranger has evidently given offence to some of the inhabitants of the district, as persona are requested to sign a petition for his removal, it is at all times a very hard task to please all parties. Certainly the roads never were so clean of stray cattle and horses. Having done his duty it is thought by one or two persons that we should revert to the old order of things 1 Much grumbling is caused by the officials of the Bank of New Zealand demanding a fee of 6d on every cheque payable at Feilding (but not on their own bank). No one objects to pay it for banks out of Feilding, so that the charge of 6d for just going across the road seems rather rough. At all large towns you are never charged a fee no matter how many banka the cheques are made payable at, so long as they are in the town district. The many friends of Mr Birks, the home missionary, will be glad to hear that it is settled that he shall remain at Birmingham.
