New Resident Magistrates

For some tiino past tho Government havo had iv contemplation tho appointment of a number of Resident Magistrates to fill vacancies oxistmg at Nelson, Kuiapoi and Lawrence respectively. It has been decided to offer appointments as Rosident Magistrates to Mr James Crosbio Martin, of tho firm of Duncan, Cotterill aud Martiu, and at present Crown Solicitor and Crown Prosecutor at Christchurch ; to Mr R. S. Hawkins, solicitor, of Wellington; and to Mr U. Eyre Kenny (brother of the lion Captam Konny, M.L.C,) who holds tho position oi relieving Rosident magistrate, and is at present acting magistoiially at Nels v. Mr T. Hutchison, solicitor, of Hawora, is to bo offered tho appointment of rolioying Resident .Magistrate in succession to Mr Konuy. Tho allotment of tho other stations remains in abeyance somo time louger, as it will be necessarj to arrange for a magistrate to take up Judge Ward's District Comt work until ho is ready to resumo it. The arraugomeut already made for an exchange of districts betwoou Mr C. C. Graham and Mr J. Ashcroft, Official Assiguees at Wellington and Dunediu respectively, is to be adhered to, aud will shortly be earned into effect. Wellington, This Day. Robinson, R.M. of Wellington, will take Judge Ward's place while noting as Supreme Court Judge.
