Confirmation at St. John's Church, Feilding.
« TJie Primate held a confirmation service in St. John's on Tuesday last, February 7th. The occasion was the more interesting as being the last official visit of Bishop Hadfield to Feildiug, as it is his intention to resign soon and to live at xMurton, near bis married daughter, Mrs John Marshall. The service commenced by the congregation singing hymn 270 (A. and M.) The Rev. A. Hermon read tho opening sentence, after which the Bishop took the entire service himself, addressing the candidates as follows, by name : — Joseph Robert Black, William Aubrey Gosling, Ernest Edward Knowles, Constance Christian, Laura Marion Fry, Annie Helen Fry, Alice Emily Fowles, Munon Theresa Gosling, Elizabeth Kate Heuppey, Fanny Ualcombe Ileappey, Alice Marion Heappey, Susannah Waipa Heappey, Elizabeth Maca'ister, Ellen Martin, Edith Oliver, Annie Louisa Pike, Florence Pike, Edith Bessie Pike, Rose Knight, Emily Mary Retemeyer, Eva lloe, Amy Margaret Thorby, Pluvbe Jane Thorby, and Alice Leonard Weightman. After singing hymn 348, the Bishop preached a sermon which will long live in the memories of those who listened to his earnest and impressive wordß from Luke 9c. 35v. — " And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying : ' This is my beloved Son, hear Him.'" After the sermon, hyiun 271 was heartily sung by all present, and the Bishop pronounced the benediction.
