Wellington, January 27. The following are the principal amounts won at the Wellington Baring Club's summer meeting : — F. Martin, £34.0 ; J. D. Ormond, £300 ; Capt. Russell, £185 ; J. Freeth, £95 ; J. Kennedy, £92 10s; J. Paul, £85 ; Dr Reid, £85 ; J. Wilson, £82 10s ; H. Lunn, £50 ; K. MoKenzie, £50; T. Ray, £50. Smaller amounts raise the total to £1610. Torpedo has been sold to go to Australia. Mr J. Lee, of Awahuri, is preparing a string of horses for the forthcoming meeting of the Manawatu Club, and we understand some ot them will be able to make their debut under very favorable circumstances. Amongst the string are : May Dawn, Shan, Stockboy, and a two-year-old filly by Tim Whiffler. — Manawatu Times. At' the V.A.T.C. meeting last Saturday the New Zealand horse Sternchaser, by Nordenfelt — Crinoline, the property of Mr S. H. Gollan, won the Anniversary Handicap, 1 mile and 3 furlongs. Eighteen horses started. It is stated that 8 to 1 is the best price obtainable about St. Hippo for the Australian Cup, in either Melbourne or Sydney. Up to the present date the amount of prize money given by the Victorian Racing Club reach 38 the enormous sum of £401,505. When it is taken into consideration the amount necessary to keep the racecourse in proper order, wages, etc., it will be seen what a gigantic institution the V.A.C. must be. Mr Gollan'a costly purchase, Mousquetaire (full brother to Zalinski), who has not yet earned silk in public, is said to be progressing satisfactorily in his training at Caulfield, as is also his stable mate, Culloden, the half brother to Lochiel. How are the mighty fallen ! At the Epsom (Victorian) meeting on the 7th instant the Dunedin Cup winner, Sultan (entered to be sold for nothing) won the Selling Hurdle Race, of 70sovs. Apparently it is the opinion that there is very little money in the Apremont horse, for on being submitted to auction his owner was enabled to retain him by the small outlay of £25.
