Funeral of the Late Mr T. C. Green
The funeral of the late Mr T. C. Green (late machinist in this office) took place yesterday afternoon. The weather was most unfavorable, and at times the rain poured down in torrents, nevertheless, a large number of members of the Manchester Rifles and of the Foresters, the de- . ceased being a member of both bodies, I turned out to do honor to the memory of I their old comrade and brother. The cortege left the residence of Mr Green, senr., about 2.30, and was joined by the band and volunteers under Lieutenants Kirton and Bray, at the corner of the North aud and Eimbolton roads. The mournful procession then moved on, headed by the firing party of the volunteers, the band playing the solemn strains of the " Dead March," the procession being joined in by a considerable number of private vehicles and horsemen. Though the rain still continued to pout clown the sad assemblage continued on its journey marching at slow time, and it was nearly 4.15 before the cemetery gates were reached. Arrived there a halt was made whilst the band played the " Dead March" for the last time, and then the last sad rites at the grave followed. The Rev. A. Hermon read the beautiful service as prescribed by the Church of England in a deeply impressive manner. Brother Petherick, C.R., then read the Foresters' service for the dead, and the finng of three volleys over the grave by the firing party of the Manchester Rifles under Sergt. F. Say well, closed the proceedings which were marked by a degree of solemnity in keeping with the trying uature of the elements. Mr Alfred Eade was the undertaker engagod. A number of beautiful wreaths were placed on the coffiu ere it descended to its last resting place. Universal sympathy has been expressed for the sorrowing relatives of the deceased, who has gone to that •' bourn whence no trayoller returns," mourned on all sides, for his was a life which was without blemish. We have been requested by Mr aud Mrs Charles Green to thank their friends for the kindness extended to thorn during the illness of their late son Mr Thomas Charles, and to express their grateful thanks to those who attended the funeral which took place as aboye.
