The Jubilee Singers

The Assembly Room was Hterably jrowded on Thursday night with a fashionable and appreciative audience to welcome this talented company. The programme was opened by the chorus " Steal away to Jesus," followed by " The Lord's Prayer." Of these and the other choruses, the rendering was the perfection of part singing ; the blending of the voices being so complete and harmonious that the musical effect was simply entrancing. •' There's a great camp meeting " was beautifully rendered and was encored. Mr Orpheus McAdoo sang " I'm King O'er Land and Sea " splendidly, his grand bass voice being exercised to the fullest advantage. He received an enthusiastic encore. The chorus " The Winter will soon be over " was yerry pretty and charming in its novelty. Madame J. Stewart Ball sang "The" Old Folks at Home" with great taste and feeling, and was deservedly applauded. This was followed by the chorus " My Lord delivered Daniel " which in its tnrn was succeeded by the beautiful quartette "In Silent Mead "by Messrs Collins, Hodges, E. and O. McAdoo. The chorus "I'm rolling through an unfriendly World " closed the first part of the programme. Before the interyal Mr O. McAdoo gave an interesting and amusing account of the travels of the company in South Africa, and their strange adventures in that country with the Dutch settlers. The second part was opened with a medley of English, Scotch", Irish, and American airs, which was well sang and enthusiastically encored. Miss Laura A. Carr sang " When the Swallows come again " very sweetly, and was encored. She responded with an amusing little song " Tolly." The chorus "We shall walk through the valley in Peace " was charmingly rendered" and deservedly encored. Miss Saunders recited " The Switch " in good form and with perfect elocution, and received a well earned encore. " The Gospel Train is Coming " J was the last chorus and was in eyery way ] equal to its predecessors. Mr Hamilton Hodges sang Gounod's grand aria, " Nazareth," in a manner worthy of this masterpiece, and he was the recipient of an encore. The glee " Good nighty beloved " closed the programme. Wh2n Mr 0. McAdoo announced that the company would again visit Feilding in about a year, he was loudly cheered.
