Te Kooti
Te Kooti left by buggy yesterday with his myrmidons for the big meeting at Awahuri where he remains until the 15th January. A Maori wag says he is now tchanau (born), and can be seen by visitors. The name Te Kooti should not be pronounced as a Scotty says " Coo," but as in all Maori words, the double vowel merely prolongs the sound of " o." Though not clear on thivt point many natives say it signifies a judge, or the word " court " rendered into Maori.
