Fatal Bushfelling Accident
A sad and fatal accident happened to a man named Henry Martin early yesterday morning whilst working on Mr Levett's property at Beaconsfield. It appears that deceased, who was in company with his son Bobert and his brother-in- , law Alfred Marshall, had put a scarf in a rimu tree for the purpose of causing it to be brought down by a white pine, which his son and Marshall were engaged in felling. Immediately after he bad put the scarf in the rimu he commenced clearing some undergrowth, when suddenly the white pine came crashing down and in trying to avoid it deceased was struck on the head by the falling rimu which he had scarfed. Death must have been install, taneous from the character of the injuries received. The accident is rendered extremely sad owing to the fact of deceased having left a widow and family of ten children to mourn their lose. The youngest is only five weeks old. Deceased was well known as a hard working settler of kindly disposition, and his loss is much reSretted in the district. An inquest will be held to-morrow morning at the deceased's residence, Cheltenham, and the funeral will take place in the afternoon.
