The Alleged Murder at Waikomiti
VERDICT OP WILFUL MURDER AGAINST THE ACCUSED. (per press association.; Auckland, November 25. The inquest on the body of Thompson, the Waikomiti settler, with whose murder Alex. Scott is charged, was resumed at Auckland yesterday. Mr Pond, analyst, deposed that he had examined the contents of the stomach and intestines. There were traces of strychnine also in the stomach, kidney, liver, and spleen. The inquest is still proceeding. Later. The inquest concerning the death of William Thompson, at Waikomiti, was concluded to-day. The Coroner, addressing the jury, reviewed the evidence at some length, pointing out that there were many points which told strongly against Scott. After about an hour's retirement the jury returned the verdict that Scott had wilfully murdered Thompson by administering strychnine poison. The foreman of the jury stated that the verdict was unanimous.
