Feilding Borough Council
The regular monthly meeting of the Council was held on Thursday evoning last. Present— Messrs W. G. Haybittle (Major), Chamberlain, Sandilands, Lethbridge, Goodbehere, Carthew, Fowlea and Gould. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, The following correspondence was dealt with :— From Rev Father Patterson, forwarding petition containing 69 signatures re improvements of that part of the Cemetery* belonging to the Roman Catholic body. From .T. H. Blackmore, poundkeeper, stating that £14 3a 2d has been paid to the Borough account, sale of sheep on the 12th of October last. From D. Younger, asking the Council to fill iv the dram fronting his section in Denbigh street, and stating he considered the dram was dangerous, on account of being too near the metaL From the Secretary of the Vaile Testimonial Committee, Auckland, re circular for proposed testimonial. From S. Andrew, requesting to be put on the rate roll for section 603 Denbigh street, and asking that the water hole on road line may be filled in. The Mayor informed the Council, that outstanding rates amounting to £460 had been paid in during the month of October, leaying about £149 still due on both the general and loan rates. Proposed by Councillor Goodbehere, seconded by Cr. Lethbhdge, that the re« portof the Finance Committee be adopted. — Carried. Proposed bj Or. Carthew, seconded by Cr. Lethbridge, that Mr Younger's letter be referred to the Public Works Committee, to report at next meeting. — Carried. Proposed by Cr. Gould seconded by Cr Chamberlain, that Mr Andrew's re* quest re water hole be referred to the Public Works Committee, to report upon at next meeting.— Carried. Considerable discussion ensued when Father Patterson's petition came up for consideration, ultimately a motion proposed by Cr, Lethbridge, seconded bj Or. Goodbehere was carried, to the effect that the petition be referred to the Cemetery Committee, with a recommendation from the Council to do what they could in the matter. Proposed by Cr. Goodbehere, seconded by Cr Fowles, that tenders be called for forming and metalling continuation of Warwick street, tenders to be opened and receiyed by a Committee consisting of the Mayor, Crs Carthew and Goodbehere, said tenders to be in by this day week. The Mayor, Crs Goodbehere, Fowles, and Carthew yoted for the resolution ; Crs Sandilands, Gould, Chamberlain and Lethbridge. opposed it, and the motion was carried by the casting vote of the Chairman ; the said Committee were authorized to accept the approved tender. Proposed by Cr Carthew, seconded by Cr Fowles, that the Railway Commissioners be requested to form the railway crossing in Russell Street.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Carthew, seconded by Cr Sandilands, that the Engineer prepare an estimate for the construction of a footpath from Stafford to Derby streets on the west aide of Kimbolton road, without kerbing. — Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Lethbridge that the footpath opposite the Court House be formed and kerbed, and the Government be charged with one half the cost of the same. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Carthew seconded by Cr Fowled, that a footpath be constructed on the south side of Manchester street across Manchester Square. — Carried. The Mayor informed the Council, that the election of members for the new Palmerston Charitable Aid Board will be held ou the 23rd instant. Feilding and Foxton will be grouped and return one member between them. Palmerston appoints two, Manawatu County Council two, Fitzherbert, Manawatu, Manchester, Kiwitea, and Pohangina Road Boards, and the Halconibe Town Board are grouped together, and return four members. The Council then adjourned.
