Cricket Match

The opening match of the eeason was played between the Feilding and Oroua County, and the Manchester Clubs yesterday afternoon on the latter Club's ground, the game ending in a win for the latter by 30 runs. The scoring was small on both sides, the bowling proving too good for the batting. The Feilding Club only made 22 runs in their first innings, but did a little better at their second attempt, when they scored 43. The Manchester Club compiled 56 ruus in their first innings, of which number Arthur Parr obtained 21, and Bicharda 12, and both batted in good style. In their second innings, the total .only reached 39, Belfit with 12 runs to his credit, alone getting into double figures. In neither innings, did a single individual succeed m obtaining doable figures for the Feilding Club, though several showed good form with the bat. In the latter Club's first innings, Burlaoe secured 4 wickets for only 10 runs, and Richards took 6 wickets at the small oost of 8 runs and one wide ball. Strachan was the most successful bowler in the first innings when the Manchester team was batting, as he secured 5 wickets for the small number of 12 runs, and in the second innings, Rutherford and Baillie bowled very well, the former obtaining 4 wickets for 20 runs* and the latter took d wickets at the trifling cost of 11 runs and one wide Clayton -kept wicket remark* ably well for the Feilding Club, and is very smart behind the stumps. Richards, a new arrival in this district, is a valuable acquisition to the ranks of the Manchester Club. He is a capital ail round cricketer, bowls with plenty of pace, andean break his balls from either the leg or off side at will. A fair number of spectators were present during the afternoon, and great interest was taken in the match. There is every probability of encket flourishing in this district, as the advent of the new Club seems to have awakened renewed interest in the game.
