Feilding Horticultural Society
The annual meeting of this Society was held at Mr Goodbehere's office last night. Present— Messrs Kirton (chairman), W. Fowles, H. Worsfold, Hicks, Goodbehere, and Evans. The minutes ef the previous annual meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary read the balance sheet for the present year, which showed a small loss of £2 7s 4d on the year's working. This result was principally brought about through a loss over the Chrysanthemum Show, which was held on a very wet day. The liabilities outstanding amount to L6 8s 4d. Mr Fowles suggested that an apple show be held at the same time as the Chrysanthemum Show. Proposed by Mr W. Fowles, seconded by Mr Hicks, That the report and balance sheet be adopted.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Goodbehere, second d by Mr Evans, That Mr Lethbridge be appointed president for the year.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Worsfold, seconded by Mr Evans, That Messrs Sherwill and E. Goodbehere be elected vice-presidents for the year.— Carried. The following gentlemen were elected to serve on the committee :— Messrs W. and F. Fowles, H. and E. Worsfold, Hicks, Kirton, T. Chamberlain, Barton. Wollerman, Evane, Morey, J. and W, Weightman, S. Knight, and W. Light. Proposed by Mr Goodbehere, seconded by Mr H. Worsfold, That C. Fitzherbert, be elected Secretary and Treasurer, vice Mr Goodbehere, who resigns the office owing to press of business. The Chairman proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Goodbehere for his servics to the Society during the past ten years, and asserted that it was owing to that gentleman's exertions on behalf of the Society that it had held together. The motion was carried by acclamation, and Mr Goodbehere returned thanks, and regretted that the Society was not in a more satisfactory position, but added that it would aflord him great pleasure to give the Society a fresh start with a clean sheet. . . The Schedule Committee was appointed, and Messrs H. Worsfold, Barton, Sherwill, and Evans, were chosen to act. A circular from the Minister of Agriculture, re the question of cool storage &c. was left for the Schedule Committee to deal with. The Spring Show was fixed to be held on the 24th of November, the Autumn Show for the 10th ot March next, and the Chrysanthemum date was left open. The usual vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the proceedings.
