At a public meeting to-night at the Theatre Royal a resolution was carried with only two dissentients, in favour of raising a further loan of £200,000 to complete the breakwater of the harbour. Auckland, September 29. The report and balance sheet of the South British Insurance Cotnpuny for the yeur ending 31st August, shows a profit on the year's operation of £25,' 189, which, added to the balance brought forward from last year of £8199, leayea £33,388 at the credit of the profit and loss account. The directors have transferred £20,000 to the reserve fund, and recommend payment of a dividend for the half year just ended at the rate of 10 per cent per annum. During a heavy thunderstorm yester* day morning the Kind's Arms Hotel, in Upper Pitt street, was struck by lightning, The chimney was split as the lightning went down it, knocking a register grate into the middle of the room. Mrs Hardy, wiFe of the licensee, who was standing at the door, escnped. Wellington, This Day. The Premier is suffering from heart disease and atrophy of the stomach, the latter troubling him most. The Customs revenue receipts for September are L 152,659. Auckland contribute L 31.918; Wellington, L 29.32 0; Christchnrch, L 29.53 8; Dunedin, L 35-,--402 For the half year tho receipts are L 814,975 being 1/2,6,475 above the estimate of the beer duty is somewhat below the estimate.
