j a 1 PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. I Berlin, September 24. The deaths in Hamburg to-day numbered 144. The Emperor has sent an autograph letter to the authorities in Hamburg, expressing sympathy with the cholera sufferers, and enclosing a cheque for 10.000 marks (£500). September 25. One hundred and thirty deaths from cholera were recorded in Hamburg on Saturday and 98 on Sunday. One hundred and forty corpses were buried in one grave. The Hamburg City Council has decided to raise a loan of quarter of a million pounds to assist small tradesmen who have been almost ruined owing to the spread of the epidemic. Terrible sufferings are being caused at Hamburg by cholera. There is absolutely no trade doing, and starvation is common. New York, September 25 President Harrison has issued instruc- ! tions that second-class passengers arriving from cholera infected ports are to be refused permission to land in the United States unless American citizens or former residents. Much confusion is likely to result from this order. London, September 25. The crew of the ship Bayard mutinied at Queenstown because they were required to go to Hamburg. Outsiders were obtained in their places ; the mutineers payisg a portion of their wages to be released from engagement. St. Petersburg, September 25. Cholera has appeared at last in the Baltic provinces. Washington, September 25 Second class passengers are excluded from Boston only, under the President's order ; other ports are still open to them.
