Kiwitea Road Board

THIS DAY. The usnal monthly meeting of the above Board was held to-day. PresentMessrs Taylor (chairman), Jones, Reid, Burton, Lucas, Morton, Williamson, and Homer. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was received and dealt with. From W. J. Mackie, forwarding account of £1 17s 6d for bush felling on Mangarnako road. I From C.J2. Nicholas, . applying iorre-. fund of cost for felling seven acres of road line in Apiti. From Taylor and Kevern, stating that their account of £15 15s for felling bush on the Mangapapa road has not yet been paid. From B. Spiers, requesting payment for work done on Section 7, Block 14, in the Pohangina road district. From the following persons forwarding accounts for felling road line, etc. : — A. Munro, Birmingham, £3; Richard Bros., Birmingham, £6 15s; Thomas Smith, Pahnerston North, £5 lls ; J. Lynch, Pahuerston North, £2 ss ; John Powell, Waituna West, £12 15s. From the undermentioned requesting to be put on the rate roll : — G. P. Church in place of J. R. White for section 9, block 10, Apiti ; G. W. D. Theobald, in place of D. Ritzman for sections 103, and 132, Pemberton ; G. Hunt in place of W. Gardner, for section 37, block 14, Foxton Settlement; Henry Jacobs in place of John Rea for section 28, block 14, Pohangina; Thomas Ryan in place of James Meehan for section 1, 2, 3, and 10 Cheltenham district. From H. Calthrop, for permission to fell part of the road line adjoining his section in Birmingham. From J. B. Macßean for permission to fell bush on road line facing his property in Apiti. From E. P. Mason, Kiwitea, for permission to fell bush fronting his section. From John Jefferies, Buhnythorpe, for permission to fell road line fronting his section in the Harbor Board Block.. From Lands and Survey Department, re payment of thirds and fourths. FrbnxJ. B. Johnston re the road on Barrow's line, which should be made at once, or he would have to fence the line. From Robert Bugg, requesting that about six chains of drain may be cut fronting his section on the Valley road. From T. A. Bryce, stating that he has now completed the fencing of Bryce's road, and that he has removed the gates and fences from across it. From J. T. Hogg, re cutting now proceeding on the Eiwitea Cross Boad, and the apportionment of the balance of remaining thirds. From James Meehan, resigning his appointment as Poundkeeper at Cheltenham, and stating that his successor Mr By an would accept the position if desired. From Mr Hankins, of Palinerston, on behalf of Mr H. Hopkins of Pohangina, stating that the Board has not carried out its undertaking with his client re outlet for drainage fronting section 48 block 13, and requesting the Board to do so, otherwise his client would withdraw the permission and the drainage must be taken in sonie other direction. From the Bangitikei County Council, enclosing a copy of letter received from Mr Bruce, M.H.R., re proposed bridge over the Bangitikei. river, also asking for a copy of Mr Bray's report on the roads examined by him between Vinegar Hill and the river. Mr Bruce 's letter stated, that he had an interview with the Minister for Public Works who is prepared to subsidize local effort to the exof pound for pouud. From Kirk and Atkinson, Solicitors, Wellington, stating that the Land Board has forfeited T. W. Frankland's interest in the Pohangina Block owing to noa fulfilment of improvement conditions. From Palmerston Hospital Board, requesting payment of £82 3s amount of subsidy due from this Board. From J. W. Copithorne, for leave to fell bush on road line section 3 block 11. Pohangina, also enclosing cheque for £3 5s Mr Emmett's indebtedness for rates due to the Board, also asking: the Board to have something done to the track io Block 11. From the Colonial Secretary, enclosing warrant for the removal of John Munro's body from section 265 to the Birmingham Cemetery, subject to the usual conditions. From the .Colonial 'Secretary, acknowledging'receipt of special order by the Kiwitea Boad Board re special rate. From Thomas Barrett, stating he is doing the work on the Tapp road, and that he will require a progress payment of 303 per acre as soon as the falling is completed, the balance to be paid when' the track is cleared. From the Treasury, re a sum of £390 6s 7d amount due from this Board under " The Loansto Local Bodies Act," 1886. From Lands and Survey -Department, re road through block 7, Pohatagina District. • From A. A* Brown, requesting a re-; fund of half the rates paid by him for: sections 13 and 35, block 2, Pohangina, as G. Gordon has forfeited his half of the sections, and Brown only holds 270 acres out of the 605 standing in the joint names. From the Manawatu Standard, forwarding adyertising account for £8 14s 6d. From J. R. Anderson, applying for a slaughtering license on section 5, block 9, Apiti. From Lands and Survey Department, re Whare road diversion. With reference to the sum of £390 due to the Government, Mr Goodbehere informed the Board, that there was a sum due from the Government amounting to nearly as much as the above, for thirds due to the Board. Mr Lucas stated that some Boards were as much as five years in arrears due from the Government, on account of thirds. [Left sitting. J
