Replying to questions it was stated, That inquiries were being made as to the advisability of paying persons employed by the Government at a daily rate of waees Fortnightly instead of monthly. — That the Government would in future refuse to grant licenses to use a totalisator at all nice meetings where more thnn 10 per cent was deducted br the Racing Club. The shop and shop assistance Bill was further considered in Committee,— The Minister for Libour moved an addition to clause 5, providing that where the half-holiday fell immediately preceding New Year's Day, Good Friday and Christmas Day, the Act should not apply. — The uddition was agreed to. — I*l ew clause. 3a, prohibiting shopkeepers from permitting any person to remain in the shop more than half an hour after closing time. — The Minister for Labour moved to amend it in the direction of preventing a shopkeeper employing anyone in the shop in the ordinary course of his business, more than half an hour after closing time. — Agreed to, The Industrial Conciliation Bill was further considered in committee, and the House adjourned at 2.30 a.m.
