Manawatu Auction Mart

Prior to his commencing his first stock sale on Tuesday Mr Matthew Henry, during the course of a few remarks, thanked the vendors for their kindness and the confidence they had placed in him in sending their stock forward, and stated that he would always feel indebted to them. He also thanked the buyers, in anticipation, remarking that without them both vendors and auctioneers would be in a sorry plight. Would-be buyers and spectators also came in for a share of thanks, the former for their kind intententions and the latter for the interest they manifested in the proceedings. Concludiup, Mr Henry made apologies for himself and on behalf of his staff for any shortcomings which might be noticed, but as the sale proceeded it became at once apparent that the apologies were quite unnecessary, the business proceedmg without a hitch, The following are details of the prices realised : — Cat tle^-3-year-old steers, £4 9s ; 2to 2^-year steers, £2 17s to £3 Is; empty, cows, up to £3 14s ; dairy cows, to £6 15s ; weaners, from 30s to £2 7s. Sheep— Only one pen of forward wethers came to hand, which realised 14s. Store cattle sold readilj, but on account, no doubt, of the scarcity of feed, cows in cafl and in milk were in bad condition and dragged. Taken throughout, Mr Henry has every reason to be well satisfied with the result of his first sale, and there la no doubt his energy and enterprise will meet with the support it deserves at the hands of the settlers in the district.— Manawatu Daily Times.
