Labouchere, commenting in Truth on the dispute, declares that it is due to the Queen alone that he was not officially asked to take office. Many newspapers and many of Labouchera's colleagues and of the Liberal Clubs condemn his attitude. Silver has risen one eighth. City financiers nre farourable to tbe issue of New Zealand Treasury Bills, and the opinion is expressed that the Colony might easily place then here. A company is forming to take over tha affairs of the firm, and Mr James Ford of Messrs Ford, Khodes, and Ford, chartered accountants, has been appointed special manager. The City is excited by rumours of further impending failures. Thirty one additional bodies have been recovered from the Park Slip Colliery at Bridgend. They were in a ghastly state, and were only recognised by tho clothes. The Post Office is desirous to pay only Union rates for the carriage of letters via San Francisco instead of lls per lb under the present service. Mr Perceval hopes to overcome the refusal to continue the subsidy to the re« newal of the San Francisco service. Ottawa. August 31, A dozen Salvation Army officers in Toronto have resigned. A Russian gunboat seized the American and Canadian sealers at Copper Island. The crews were treated with great cruelty. Pabis, August 31. The Marquis de Mores who killed Capt. Mayer in a duel was tried and acquitted of the charge of homicide. St. Pktessbvba, August 30. Anti Jewish riots have again broken out in Hunsia. Many Jews have been killed, and their houses wrecked. Tangieb, August 30 It is reported that in the recent engagement the Augherities had all the best of Ike fighting, killing 200 of the Sultan's infantry and capturing 60.
