Birmingham Jockey Club

« A meeting of the committee of the Birmingham Jockey Club was held in Mr Lowe's Hotel on Saturday night. Mr Gk Eidd occupied the chair. Mr Lowe reported a conversation he had with Mr Dick, as to the latter accepting the secretaryship of the club ; also as to the advisability of the club attempting to form a course and have a meeting as well this season. It was stated that the Metropolitan Club had fixed £25 as the minimum for each race, and £150 as the lowest for one day's racing on courses where the totalisator was in use. The committee were of opinion that the club was not able to form the course in Mr Mcßeth's paddock at the estimated expense of £150, and also guarantee £150 for a day's racing. Some conversation then took place as to the possibility of forming a course partly in Mr R. Burne's property and partly in Mr Bryce's property, or the wnole of the course in Mr Bur no' 8, and it was stated it would not cost one-third of the amount required to form a course on Mr Mcßeth's property. Ultimately Messrs U. Kidd and W. MeBeth were appointed to examine the ground suggested for a course, and canvass the district, in order to find out how much support could be obtained towards the formation of a course, and the holding of a day's racing, and report at nest meeting.
